Legal Support
We advise on all aspects of food hygiene and health and safety regulations — including enforcement liaison when things get difficult.
Context
Enforcement liaison and legal assistance
The Food Safety Act 1990 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 provide the frameworks for food hygiene and health and safety legislation in the UK.
Sentencing guidelines issued in February 2016 substantially increased fines for food hygiene breaches — there is no longer a £20,000 maximum for offences tried in a Magistrates’ Court.
How we help
About our legal support
Our environmental health consultants are fully conversant with these regulations. They have extensive enforcement experience, recognise when EHOs will and won’t take legal action, and can liaise confidently — or challenge decisions when required.
- 01 Examine EHO reports and enforcement notices
- 02 Advise on appeals against notices or hygiene ratings
- 03 Attend meetings when communication has broken down
- 04 Provide mitigation statements before interviews under caution
- 05 Examine evidence and report to your solicitor
